About

amy's Story

Amy Mathieu is a dedicated attorney and passionate advocate for justice with a focus on civil rights, LGBTQ+ issues, and victims' rights. A life-long Democrat and believer in justice, Amy is asking for your vote for the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.

Education

Amy earned her B.A. in Politics & Philosophy and Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013, graduating magna cum laude and as a Dean's Scholar. She continued her studies at Pitt Law, where she graduated cum laude in 2016, receiving the Dean's Scholarship and Ralph J. Cappy Scholarship. During her time in law school, Amy was also nominated for the National Association of Women Lawyers' Outstanding Law Student Award.

Legal Experience

Throughout her legal career, Amy has been deeply committed to advocating for marginalized communities, with a special focus on ensuring justice for victims of abuse. She has represented hundreds of survivors in high-profile cases, including lawsuits against institutions, like the Catholic Church, that enabled and covered up sexual abuse. Her work is grounded in a core belief that legal systems must protect vulnerable individuals and hold institutions accountable for wrongdoing.

Community support

Amy dedicates significant time to pro bono causes and legal education. She provides free training to mental health professionals, helping them better support clients through the complex legal system. Amy is also passionate about supporting the LGTBQ+ community, offering free legal advice and training on name change petitions.

Priorities

As a legal professional, Amy strives to expand access to justice for those who have been harmed, whether through systemic abuse, discrimination, or lack of legal resources. If elected as your Judge in Allegheny County, her priorities would include protecting civil rights for marginalized groups, ensuring the court system is more accessible to survivors of harm and abuse, and making the name change process more navigable for trans individuals.

Outside of her professional life, Amy is married to Katie and is a proud stepmom and aunt. She and Katie have three beloved dogs, Ted, Betty, and Poppy.
